Reading Royals News Release

Reading, PA – The Reading Royals, ECHL affiliate of the NHL's Los Angeles Kings and AHL's Manchester Monarchs, have signed rookie defenseman Simon Mangos (Man-goes) from Ferris State University. The alternate captain for the Bulldogs finished a solid four-year stint in Big Rapids, Michigan.

"The signing of Simon Mangos provides us with a defenseman that will fit well with Coach Clancey's system. Simon's collegiate career speaks for itself; he provided leadership, character, and production for an excellent Division 1 program for four years. We feel Simon will quickly develop into a player we can use confidently in all on-ice situations," commented Royals GM Ray Delia.

The three-year letterman for the Bulldogs ranks third all-time in plus/minus rating (+59). Mangos registered a +42 rating in his junior season, which ranks second all-time in Ferris State history and ranked second in CCHA play. The Caledon, Ontario native contributed to the Bulldogs best season ever in 2002-03. Ferris posted a 31-10-1 mark and 22-5-1 record and Central Collegiate Hockey Association championship. The Bulldogs enjoyed their first-ever berth in the NCAA College Hockey Tournament. Ferris advanced to the West Regional title game before being eliminated by Minnesota.

The rookie defenseman believes Reading is the right fit, "I spoke with coach Clancey early in the summer and based on what he told me and the success of the team last year, I felt it was the right fit for me. I am excited to be a Royal and I look forward to next season."

The Reading Royals are entering their fourth season in Reading, Pennsylvania after relocating from Columbus, Ohio. The Royals enjoyed their first Kelly Cup playoff appearance last season, claiming the Northern Division Title and were one win away from qualifying for the Kelly Cup Finals. The Royals and the City of Reading are proud to be hosting the 13th annual ECHL All-Star Game and Skills Competition on January 25 and 26.
