Trenton Devils News Release
TRENTON, NJ (July 2, 2004) - The Trenton Titans announced today they have named Ted Dent assistant coach for the 2004-05 season.
"Ted brings NHL experience to this team and has worked under great hockey minds like Bruce Cassidy, Ron Wilson and Glen Hanlon," stated Titans Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations, Mike Haviland. "It's a privilege to have someone of Ted's stature as a part of the Titans and working with our players."
Dent comes to Trenton after five seasons as the Video Coordinator for the Washington Capitals, where he worked closely with the coaching staff on analysis of opposing teams and the Capitals' player performances. During his tenure with the Capitals, Dent worked under former Titans Head Coach Bruce Cassidy from 2002-03.
"I'm excited for the opportunity to work with Mike [Haviland] and Rich [Lisk]," Dent said. "I've heard nothing but good things about the Titans organization and I'm looking forward to a great season and, hopefully, a long playoff run."
A native of Toronto, Ontario, Dent played four years of division I hockey at St. Lawrence University from 1988-1992. He began his professional career with the Wichita Thunder of the CHL, where he put up 25 goals, 44 assists and 109 PIM in 60 games played. Dent continued on to skate with Johnstown Chiefs and Charlotte Checkers over two seasons in ECHL, recording 127 points (42g, 85a) in 130 games.
Dent also served as a volunteer assistant coach for the Miami Matadors, formerly of the ECHL, in 1998-99 and is co-owner of the Top Gun Hockey School in South Florida. He lives in Crofton, MD with his wife, Catherine, and their two children.
