Chiefs Re-Sign Currie and Manzano

Johnstown, PA- Johnstown Chiefs Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Toby O'Brien announced today that they have re-signed goaltender David Currie and defenseman Ian Manzano.

Currie, 22, was 19-10-3 in the 34 games with the Chiefs last season, along with a 2.93 GAA and a 0.905 save percentage. Five of Currie's ten losses came in his first seven starts. The 5'10, 175 LBS native of Peterborough, Ontario was named the ECHL's rookie of the month for January when he went 7-0-1. He was also named the Chiefs most improved player last season.

"David was a key part of our success last season. He was one of the hardest working and most improved players we have seen here. We look forward to David being in between the pipes for the 2004-05 season," said O'Brien.

Prior to joining the Chiefs, Currie played four seasons with Peterborough of the Ontario Hockey League beginning in 1999-2000 when he appeared in two games. He was 5-9-1 in 17 games in 2000-01 and 27-23-4 in 57 regular season games in 2001-02 while also appearing in six playoff games. He closed out his junior career in 2002-03 going 24-15-7 with a 2.89 goals against average and a .915 save percentage in 52 regular season games while also appearing in seven playoff games.

Manzano, 27, appeared in 71 of the Chiefs 72 games last season, scoring 3 goals and 23 points. He also played one scoreless AHL game with the Binghamton Senators. The 6'2, 200 LBS native of Dorval, PQ split the 2002-03 season between the Chiefs and the AHL's Saint John Flames. In 26 games with Johnstown that season, Manzano had a goal and six points. In 43 games with the Flames he had 3 goals and 15 points.

"Ian was one of our top defenseman last season. He has continued to improve each season he has been here. He will be one of the backbones of our defensive corps this season," O'Brien added.

Manzano played collegiate hockey for Clarkson University (ECAC). In 134 career games for the Golden Knights, Manzano scored 9 goals and 23 assists (32 PTS).
