Trenton Thunder News Release

(Reading, PA) - Reading scored seven unanswered runs after Trenton had taken an early 2-0 lead and the Phillies handed the Thunder their seventh consecutive loss, 7-2, Tuesday night at FirstEnergy Stadium. Darin Ruf hit his third home run of the series and league-best 28th of the season for Reading, which moved to within 4.0 games of Trenton (70-52) for first place with 20 games to play.

David Adams drilled an Adam Morgan pitch for a two-run homer in the first inning to put the Thunder into the lead for the first time in seven days. Morgan (2-0) would settle in and retire the next 13 straight batters following Adams' blast and Trenton would not score again in the contest.

Mikey O'Brien (4-6) gave up four consecutive hits to start his night in the bottom of the first including RBI singles from Cody Asche and Leandro Castro that tied the game at 2. Asche's RBI double to center put Reading in front 3-2 in the third and Miguel Abreu's two-out, bases-loaded hit plated a pair against O'Brien in the sixth.

Ruf hit a Francisco Rondon pitch well out to left field with Asche on first in the seventh to finish the scoring. He has hit ten homers this month and seven in ten games played against Trenton this season.

Morgan allowed five hits and two runs in six innings and defeated O'Brien and the Thunder for the second time in less than a week. O'Brien, who allowed nine hits in six innings, has not won in his last ten starts.

The teams continue the series on Wednesday night at 7:05 pm, with left-hander Shaeffer Hall (8-8, 3.52) expected to start for Trenton while Reading counters with righty Austin Hyatt (6-3, 4.80). Radio coverage on 91.3 FM (WTSR) and also streaming online begins at 6:50 pm.
