Reading Express News Release
Reading, Pa. (September 19, 2011) - With an eye to a strong 2012 campaign in indoor professional football, the Reading Express are excited to announce the team's first player signing for next season. Wide receiver Paul Shaughnessy is the first piece of what will be a deep receiving corps for the Reading Express.
Shaughnessy, a Massachusetts native, had a stellar four-year collegiate career at Mount Ida College. He is the only player in Mount Ida History to have over 1,000 yards rushing and 1,000 yards receiving. Shaughnessy was a key component to the Mustangs' offense his senior season. He is a versatile athlete who saw time at running back, full back and wide receiver. Shaughnessy helped lead Mount Ida to the first-ever Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference North Atlantic Bowl appearance in the history of the program.
Shaughnessy's success on the field caught the eye of many scouts, and got him an invitation to the National Football League (NFL) Combine in April in Detroit, Mich.
The Reading Express are one of the most established franchises in indoor football. In six full seasons, the team has amassed an overall record of 73-27 with five division championships, two conference titles and the 2009 AIFA National Championship. In 2011, Reading began play as a new member of the Indoor Football League and captured the league's Atlantic Division title. The team plays on The Reading Hospital Medical Group Field at Sovereign Center in Reading, Pa.
