Rayz stay perfect in Austin with 2-1 win
December 15, 2007 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Corpus Christi IceRays News Release
The Chaparral Ice Center in Austin may not be the biggest or nicest rink in the Central Hockey League, but it suits the Corpus Christi Rayz just fine. For the third time in as many meetings this season the Rayz and the Austin Ice Bats played right down to the wire, but the Rayz prevailed with a 2-1 win to improve to 7-0 all time at the Chap. Adam Hogg had both Rayz goals and Jason Tapp made 35 saves on 36 shots for his second win of the week. The Rayz won their third straight game on the road and are now 6-2-1 in their last nine. Corpus Christi improved their record to 8-13-2 on the season and inched within two points of Rio Grande Valley for second place in the Southeast Division. The Rayz will now continue their road trip Tuesday Morning at 11:30 in New Mexico. The Rayz will return to the American Bank Center to host Amarillo on Saturday, December 22nd when they host the Amarillo Gorillas in a Christmas Celebration Game. Tickets are on sale now. Please call 814-PUCK for more information, or visit the Rayz online at www.ccrayz.com
Neither team scored in an evenly played first period. The Rayz outshot the Ice Bats 16-13 in the frame.
In the second period both teams mustered nine shots, but the score remained 0-0. Jason Tapp had two big saves stopping a Zach Klann redirected shot on the goal line and stoning Jamie Thompson on a breakaway. The teams headed to the third period scoreless.
Adam Hogg finally broke the scoreless tie at 7:01 after he stole the puck behind the Austin net from goaltender Miguel Beaudry and tallied his first goal of the night. Austin tied the score at 12:56 when Mike Bartlett scored his first goal as an Ice Bat. However, just minutes later Hogg notched the difference maker when he beat Beaudry from the left circle at 14:21. Tapp and the Rayz killed a late penalty to preserve the win.
Tapp earned the win, making 35 saves on 36 shots as his record jumped to 8-11-2. Beaudry took the loss, and fell to 4-11, turning aside 32 of 34 shots. The Rayz went 0-4 on the power play, and the Bats were 0-5. The Bats outshot the Rayz 36-34.
The Rayz are proud to be celebrating a decade of hockey in South Texas. Individual game tickets are currently available.
