Rage Come-from-Behind to Win Fifth Straight

December 15, 2007 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Rocky Mountain Rage News Release

Wichita - The Rocky Mountain Rage rode two goals on a five-minute power play in the third period to a come-from-behind, 4-3 win against the Wichita Thunder at the Kansas Coliseum. The effort marked the Rage's 17th victory of the season, matching their entire victory total from last season in just 21 games.

Rocky Mountain came out flying, building a 2-0 lead before the game was even six minutes old. Daymen Rycroft scored his team-leading seventh power play goal at 2:52 before Simon Watson deflected in his 12th tally of the season at 5:26. But Wichita answered at 13:57 off a rebound from Bruce Richardson to cut Rocky Mountain's lead in half as the clubs headed to the second period.

Still a 2-1 game into the third, Wichita forged in front with a pair of goals 56 seconds apart. Tyler Hanchuck jammed in a rebound at 6:42 on the power play, which was quickly followed by a go-ahead tally off the stick of Dominic D'Amour at 7:38.

The contest turned again on a major penalty given to Hanchuck for slew footing the Rage's Jeff Hansen as the two tumbled to the ice at the end of a fight. On the ensuing man advantage, Rycroft re-directed home his second power play marker of the evening at 9:01. Still skating with the extra man because of the major, Weisgerber scored his eighth of the season at 10:34 to leap-frog the Rage back into the lead.

Rocky Mountain was forced to kill off one final short-handed situation over the final 2:20, but held the Thunder at bay to secure the team's fifth straight victory.

The Rage are now 17-2-2 with 36 points, 10 points clear of the second-place Colorado Eagles atop the Northwest Division.

Rocky Mountain now returns home to Broomfield Event Center on Friday and Saturday, Dec. 21 and 22, to take-on the New Mexico Scorpions and Thunder at 7:05 p.m. each night.
