Corpus Christi IceRays News Release

The Corpus Christi Rayz opened their 2007 exhibition schedule with a 3-1 defeat at the hands of the Laredo Bucks on Wednesday Night at the Laredo Entertainment Center. The contest was the debut for both clubs in this exhibition season. Rookie Alex Penner led the way for the Bucks with a two goal performance, while second year Rayz forward, Adam Powell had the lone tally for Corpus Christi. The Rayz will continue their pre-season schedule with their lone home contest on Saturday Night at 7:05pm, when they host the Rio Grand Valley Killer Bees at the American Bank Center. All fans can receive complimentary tickets for the game, courtesy of the City of Corpus Christi, the American Bank Center/SMG and the Caller-Times. The Bucks darted out of the gates and scored all three of their goals in the opening period over an eight minute and eight second span. Penner got the Bucks first and third goals at 10:48 and 18:56, respectively sandwiching a Bucks tally at 15:27 from Brett MacSween.

Following a scoreless second period, Powell got the Rayz on the board 94 seconds into the final stanza. Rookie, Jon Jankus set up Powell's goal and got credit for the only assist. However, the Bucks held the Rayz at bay and continued on for the two-goal victory. Rayz netminder, Kevin Couture played the entire game for the Rayz, turning aside 30 of 33 shots he faced. Laredo split time between goaltenders Ryan Senft and Kevin Beech. Senft made 11 saves on as many shots and earned the win, while Beech allowed one goal on seven shots. Laredo outshot Corpus Christi 33-19 and both teams went 0-3 on the power play. Both teams dressed only 18 skaters, leaving many healthy scratches for the pre-season debut. The Rayz were without notable players such as Geno Parrish, Joe Blaznek, Jason Baird, Nick Lindberg and Jason Tapp.

The Corpus Christi Rayz will begin their 10th Anniversary season on October 19th and return to the American Bank Center for their home opener on Saturday, October 20th at 7:05pm vs. Rio Grande Valley. The Rayz are proud to be celebrating a decade along the Gulf Coast and invite all of South Texas to join in the fun of the 2007-2008 campaign. Season tickets and corporate packages are currently available through the Rayz office. For more information, please call the Rayz at (361) 814-PUCK.
