October 10, 2007 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Laredo Bucks News Release
LAREDO, TX- The Laredo Bucks of the Central Hockey League opened up pre-season play with a 3-1 win over division foe Corpus Christi.
Rookie Alex Penner scored two goals, with fellow rook Brent MacSween netting a goal.
Penner opened the scoring at 10:48 of the first period, with Rane Carnegie and Chris Korchinski picking up the assists. Less than five minutes later MacSween triggered in his goal to give the Bucks a 2-0 lead. Matt Summers and Andrew Dejardins picked up the assists.
The Bucks widened their lead when Penner notched his second goal of the night past Corpus (0-1) goalie Kevin Couture. Couture stopped 30 of the 33 shots he faced in taking the loss. Penner made quite an impression as he also received a game misconduct for fighting in the third period.
Laredo's rookies made a good first impression on Bucks head coach/GM Terry Ruskowski, as they tallied seven of the Bucks nine points on the night. Korchinski and Jeff Genovy were the Bucks returnees who picked up points.
Genovy left the game in the second period as he went down hard in the corner. His status is unclear as of press time.
The Bucks (1-0) played two goalies tonight as Ryan Senft started, and played nearly 30 minutes and stopped all 11 shots he faced. Kevin Beech played the rest of the way stopping seven of eight Rayz shots. Laredo out shot Corpus 33-19.
The Bucks continue their pre-season schedule Thursday night in Austin. Laredo will play the Ice Bats the next two nights to round out the pre-season.
*BUCKS NOTE*
*Bucks all-time leading scorer Jeff Bes coached tonight as head coach/GM Terry Ruskowski evaluated players from the stands.
