Knoxville Smokies News Release
Lake Buena Vista, Fla.- Chad Gaudin -- who earlier this season threw the second perfect game in Southern League history - struck out a season high 11 batters and the Orlando offense pounded out 14 hits in a 7-1 Rays win over Tennessee (22-13, 57-48) Sunday afternoon.
Eight of the nine Rays starter contributed at least one hit, with Juan Salas going 4-for-5 to lead the way. The Rays pounded out 14 hits in the win.
John-Paul Davis and B.J. Barns stroked consecutive doubles against Nick Stocks (L, 8-6) to open the scoring in the second inning. Barns scored on a two-out single by Joey Gathright to put Orlando (15-20, 47-57) ahead 2-0.
Caonabo Cosme led off the third with a double off Gaudin (W, 2-0) and scored on a Chris Weekly single. That's as close as the Smokies would come, as Orlando rallied for a three-run fourth and scored single runs in the fifth and sixth innings to chase Stocks.
Game three of the four game series and the third of eight straight between the two clubs pits Rhett Parrott (8-9, 3.27) against Jim Magrane (8-5, 3.66) Monday night at 7:05.
