ZEBULON, N.C. – For the second consecutive game, the Suns lost in the final at bat to the Carolina Mudcats in a 6-5 defeat Sunday in front of 4,008 fans at Five County Stadium.

Off Suns reliever Ryan Minor, Jesus Medrano hit his first home run of the season in the bottom of the ninth inning to give the Mudcats the win. Minor (1-2) also gave up a game-tying solo home run to Matt Padgett leading off the eighth inning.

The Suns opened to a quick, but brief, three-run lead in the first inning when Reggie Abercrombie hit a three-run home run to left field off Carolina starter Todd Moser. It was Abercrombie's team-leading 13th of the season. But Suns starter Will McCrotty gave up three runs in the bottom of the first inning on Chris Aguila's two-run double and Padgett's run-scoring double.

Moser was removed from the game in the fourth with the Suns having runners at second and third with one out. Reliever Ryan Baker uncorked a wild pitch, scoring Abercrombie. On Baker's error, Nick Alvarez reached first which allowed Shane Victorino to score, giving Jacksonville a 5-3 lead.

Pinch-hitter Tommy Bost singled home Padgett in the sixth off McCrotty to pull the Mudcats (60-42 overall, 18-16 second half) to within a run. Craig House, who faced the final four Suns hitters, earned the victory in his first decision since joining Carolina.

Abercrombie and Victorino had three hits apiece to lead the Suns (49-56, 18-18) who have lost eight of their last 11 games. The Suns have lost those eight games by a total of 14 runs and have played in 10 consecutive games decided by one or two runs.

Right-hander Tommy Farmer (5-8, 3.56 ERA) is scheduled to face Mudcats righty Donnie Bridges (8-1, 2.85) at 7:15 p.m. Monday at Five County Stadium.
