Rayjon Tucker Game-Winner Lifts Wisconsin Past Cleveland in Season Opener

OSHKOSH, Wis. - The Wisconsin Herd, the NBA G League affiliate of the Milwaukee Bucks, started their 2021-22 campaign with a 126-124 win over the Cleveland Charge at Oshkosh Arena on Monday night. With the game tied at 124, it was Rayjon Tucker who gave the Herd the season-opening win after hitting a 10-foot baseline jumper with only three-tenths of a second remaining in the game. The game-winner also gave Chaisson Allen his first-career victory as head coach of the Herd.

Tucker finished the night with 17 points while Lindell Wigginton led the Herd with 22 points. Wenyen Gabriel (18 points, 12 rebounds) and Tremont Waters (17 points, 12 assists) tallied double-doubles for Wisconsin, while Javin DeLaurier came off the bench and scored 20 points.

To begin the game, the Herd shot 52% as a team in the first quarter of play, taking a 31-26 advantage into the second quarter. The Charge, however, went on to outscore the Herd by 10, 35-25, in the second quarter to lead 61-56 at halftime. DeLaurier ended up scoring 16 of his 20 points in the first half while Gabriel also reached double figures through two quarters, chipping in 10 points.

A big third quarter from Wisconsin put it up 12, 95-83, entering the fourth quarter after it outscored Cleveland 39-22 in the period. The Herd shot 61.5% as a team in the third quarter and held the Charge to just 32.1% shooting.

Despite trailing by 12, the Charge were able to make a comeback in the fourth quarter, eventually pulling ahead by one with 5:15 left to play. From there, the two teams traded baskets over the final five minutes before Kyle Guy hit a 3-pointer for the Charge with 17.4 seconds left to tie the game at 124. After three timeouts and a foul, Tucker then took the ball for the Herd with 9.5 seconds remaining, drove down the right side of the lane and pulled up for the game-winning shot.

Guy led all scorers in tonight's game with 27 points, making six threes.

The Herd will continue its 2021-22 season with a road back-to-back against the Motor City Cruise on Thursday and Friday in Detroit. Tipoff for Thursday and Friday's game is set for 6 p.m. CT.
