Inland Empire 66ers News Release
San Bernardino, CA- The Inland Empire 66ers of San Bernardino saw their four-game winning streak end on Wednesday at the Visalia Rawhide down the Sixers (37-40, 4-3) at San Manuel Stadium 13-4. The Rawhide (41-36, 4-3) tagged three homers and rode a six-run fifth inning to grab its first game of the four-game series that wraps up Thursday.
The Rawhide jumped in front in the second when, for the second straight game, Inland Empire walked a pair of batters in front of Ramon Hernandez. Each game he launched a three-run homer to left and now has 11 on the season. The Rawhide scored six in the fifth inning sending ten men to the plate. Visalia starter Tyler Keele (1-1) was outstanding as the righty went five shutout innings allowing two hits, three walks and matched a career-high with nine Ks to earn his first Cal League victory of the year. The Sixers came alive in the home half of the sixth against reliver Carlos Bustamanted at Jo Adell singled to open the frame. Adell also had a double and has a nine-game hit streak. Brandon Marsh followed with a single and Jordan Zimmerman's double got IE on the board 9-1. After Jonah Todd walked Connor Justus delivered a bases clearing double to make it 9-4. Inland Empire did not have another man reach base as Bustamante and southpaws Junior Garcia and Miguel Aguilar retired the final 12 batters the Sixers sent to the plate. Stephen Smith notched three hits for Visalia including a pair of doubles while Mark Karaviotis was on base five times with a single, three walks and a two-run homer, his third. Luis Alejandro Basabe homered in the top of the ninth, his first, against Sixers position player Richie Fecteau making his mound debut.
The series concludes Thursday at 7:05 pm. The contest can be heard live at 66ers.com.
