Inland Empire 66ers News Release
San Bernardino, CA - The Inland Empire 66ers of San Bernardino downed the Visalia Rawhide 6-5 at San Manuel Stadium on Tuesday and matched a season-high with the Sixers' fourth consecutive win. Brandon Marsh had three hits including a pair of triples while Jo Adell homered, his tenth.
The Rawhide (40-36, 3-3) scored an unearned run in the first against Sixers' starter Simon Mathews when Steven Souza Jr., on MLB injury rehab for the Diamondbacks, flared a RBI single to center. It was the lone run Mathews (1-2) allowed as he gave up three hits and two walks with eighth Ks in 5.0IP to earn his first Cal League victory. The Sixers answered in the bottom of the first when Adell mashed a ball that appeared to land in the protective netting above the right field wall but was instead ruled as having bounced off the wall; Adell settled for a triple. Marsh then followed with a triple of his own to tie the game at 1-1. Jordan Zimmerman's single then knocked home Marsh for a 2-1 lead. After a throwing error brought home a run, David MacKinnon singled home another to make it 4-1. The Sixers added to the lead in the fifth when Adell tagged a homer, his tenth, to dead center for a 5-1 advantage. Marsh then drilled his second triple of the night and came home on Zimmerman's sac fly. The Rawhide got back in the game when Ramon Hernandez launched a three-run homer to left against IE reliever Blake Smith; it was Hernandez' tenth of the year. In the ninth Stephen Smith doubled home a run against Sixers righty Eduardo Rivera (SV,2) to cut the lead to 6-5 and was in scoring position for Souza. Rivera, however struck out Souza with a 99 MPH fastball to put the game on ice.
The series continues Wednesday at 11:00 am. The contest can be heard live at 66ers.com.
