Modesto Nuts News Release
MODESTO, CA. - Three hits by the Modesto Nuts' offense did not get it done in a 6-0 loss to the Visalia Rawhide on Sunday evening at John Thurman Field.
Josh Green (W, 7-1) gave up only two hits, both in the second inning, but he got a little help from his defense to keep the Nuts (34-47; 4-7) off the board. After McGovern's second-inning double, Green retired the next 12 batters he faced and 13 of the final 14 hitters he saw in his six innings of work. Green struck out seven and did not walk a batter.
Penn Murfee (L, 3-2) started the game for the Nuts. He allowed three straight singles to start the top of the first but allowed just one run on a sacrifice fly. Murfee followed up his rocky first by retiring eight in a row. The Rawhide (50-27; 6-5) were able to open up the ball game in the fifth inning. L.T. Tolbert doubled home two runs as part of a three-hit day. Luis Basabe followed that up with a RBI single.
Murfee allowed four runs on eight hits with six strikeouts and one walk.
The Nuts start a three-game series with the Giants on Monday night. First pitch is at 7:05 p.m. Coverage on ModestoNuts.com will start at 6:50 p.m. Listen live online on your phone, tablet or PC.
