Lancaster JetHawks News Release
RANCHO CUCAMONGA, Calif. - Todd Czinege hit a grand slam to cap a nine-run eighth inning rally that led the JetHawks to a 13-9 win over the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes on Sunday afternoon at LoanMart Field.
The JetHawks (7-4, 41-38) trailed by seven runs, 9-2, entering the eighth. Taylor Snyder started the comeback by cutting the deficit in half with a three-run homer against reliever Sven Schueller (2-3).
Schueller walked Matt Hearn with two outs in the eighth inning and allowed a single to Matt McLaughlin. The next three JetHawks all reached on Quakes errors to score two runs and load the bases for Czinege. His grand slam followed against reliever Max Gamboa to put the JetHawks up, 12-9. It was Lancaster's second grand slam of the season and their first since Casey Golden hit one on April 19 in Visalia.
Robert Tyler (1-0) earned the win in relief, and Tommy Doyle recorded the final three outs to pick up his 13th save.
The win salvaged a series-split against the Quakes (4-7, 45-34) and gave the JetHawks a 4-3 record during their seven-game road trip. The JetHawks trailed after the seventh inning in all four of the wins on the trip including comebacks of seven, six and four runs.
The win also gave Lancaster a winning record, 14-12, for the month of June.
The JetHawks begin a three-game series against Inland Empire on Monday night at The Hangar. Will Gaddis is scheduled to start against Cristopher Molina. First pitch is 6:05 p.m.
