Stockton Ports News Release
VISALIA, Calif. - The Stockton Ports settled for a split of their four-game series with the Visalia Rawhide on Sunday night at Recreation Ballpark. Visalia's bullpen allowed just two hits over the final four innings as the Rawhide scored the final four runs of the game in a 5-1 win over Stockton.
After the Ports squandered a scoring chance with runners at second and third and one out in the top of the second, Visalia scored the first run of the game in the home half. The Rawhide ripped off three straight two-out hits off Ports starter Kyle Friedrichs (3-3). Michael Perez and Stryker Trahan singled and Robelys Reyes lined a double to right to score Perez and give the Rawhide a 1-0 lead.
Rawhide starter Brad Keller (8-6) retired seven consecutive batters going into the fifth, which was broken up with a leadoff single by Seth Brown. Three batters later, James Harris singled to left to score Brown and tie the game at 1-1. It was the only run allowed by Keller and Rawhide pitching on the night. Keller would go on to pick up the win as he pitched five innings and allowed four hits while striking out six.
Friedrichs would once again give up three consecutive hits, this time with one out in the fifth. Galli Cribbs, Zach Nehrir and Cody Regis all singled with Regis driving in Cribbs to make it a 2-1 Visalia lead. Henry Castillo followed with a sac-fly to make it 3-1.
Friedrichs would suffer his second consecutive loss, going five innings and allowing three runs on nine hits while striking out one.
Gabriel Moya pitched two perfect innings in relief for the Rawhide while striking out five of the six batters he faced. Bud Jeter entered to pitch the eighth and gave up a one-out double to Mikey White and a two-out walk to Joe Bennie that put runners at first and second. Yuhei Nakaushiro (SV, 1) was summoned from the bullpen to face Sandber Pimentel, who struck out swinging to end the threat.
Visalia scored two insurance runs in the ninth off Carlos Navas, who was victimized by a dropped pop-up by Pimentel that started the inning. After back-to-back strikeouts, Victor Reyes doubled and Perez followed with an RBI single to run the Rawhide lead to 5-1. Both runs allowed by Navas were unearned.
Nakaushiro pitched around a two-out walk and single and did not allow a run in the ninth, recording his first save of the season.
After splitting a four-game set with Visalia, Stockton continues its road trip with a three-game series in High Desert. Matt Sergey (0-0, 2.45 ERA) makes the start for Stockton in the series opener. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. PDT. This story was not subject to the approval of the National Association of Professional Baseball Leagues or its clubs.
