Ravensbergen WHL Playoffs Top Performer for April 26, 2024
April 27, 2024 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Prince George Cougars News Release
The CN Centre was treated to another Josh Ravensbergen special on Friday night.
Blanking the Portland Winterhawks, 5-0, in Game 1 of the Western Conference Championship, Ravensbergen's near-perfect postseason continued as he collected his league-leading, third shutout of the 2024 WHL Playoffs presented by Nutrien.
Stopping all 33 shots he faced, the goaltender's unstoppable evening played a pivotal role in Prince George's first win in the Conference Championship round since 2007. Ravensbergen's 30-plus save night also ties him with Swift Current's Reid Dyck for the most saves in a shutout victory during this year's playoffs.
But no save was more gratifying or crucial than his quick-thinking, pad stop in the first frame of the opening game.
Hailing from North Vancouver, B.C. Ravensbergen has been a bright light in what's been a brilliant postseason campaign for the Cougars. Along with his already mentioned trio of shutouts, Ravensbergen also leads all starting WHL puck stoppers in the goals against average category (1.62) and save percentage (.941%) at the playoffs.
In Round Two, Ravensbergen set a Cougars franchise record as the first netminder to record back-to-back shutouts during the postseason. The six-straight periods of perfection came in Game 1 and 2 against the Kelowna Rockets.
After locking up the opening game at the 2024 Western Conference Championship, Ravensbergen and his Cougars teammates will look to add to their series lead on Saturday night.
Game 2 between the Winterhawks and Cougars is slated for 8 p.m. MT on Saturday, April 27 at the CN Centre.
