Wisconsin Timber Rattlers News Release
MILWAUKEE, WI - On Friday, April 24, Miller Park will host the "Border Battle," which will feature a Midwest League matchup between the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers (the Brewers' new Class A affiliate) and the Peoria Chiefs (the Chicago Cubs' Class A affiliate). Game time is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. The announcement was made today by Brewers Executive Vice President - Business Operations Rick Schlesinger and Timber Rattlers President and General Manager Rob Zerjav.
"Through our partnership with the Timber Rattlers, the Border Battle will serve as a great opportunity for fans to see some of the Brewers' younger prospects play in a Major League environment," said Schlesinger. "We're proud to host a Midwest League game at Miller Park and to showcase the players who will play key roles in the future of the Brewers-Cubs rivalry."
The Timber Rattlers are the Brewers' Class-A Midwest League affiliate and will begin their first season as a member of the Brewers Minor League system this season. The Peoria Chiefs have been an affiliate of the Chicago Cubs since 2005. They were also affiliated with the Cubs from 1985-94.
"We are very excited for the opportunity to play a Rattlers game at Miller Park," said Rob Zerjav, Timber Rattlers President and General Manager. "We hope to increase the awareness of the Brewers/Rattlers relationship while also growing the Timber Rattlers brand and fan base."
This marks the third time in team history that the Timber Rattlers will play a game at Miller Park. On August 14, 2003, the Timber Rattlers and the Beloit Snappers met in a Midwest League battle, with the Snappers prevailing 4-2. At the time, the Snappers were the Brewers' Class A affiliate, and the game featured future Brewers players such as Prince Fielder, Tony Gwynn, Manny Parra, and Rickie Weeks. The two teams also met on August 12, 2004 at Miller Park in a game that the Snappers won by a 5-0 score.
"Miller Park is one of the great ballparks in baseball and the Chiefs are excited about the opportunity to play there," said Chiefs President Rocky Vonachen. "This will be a great experience for both our players and fans along with the Timber Rattlers. It is also great exposure for the Midwest League and Minor League baseball. It's an opportunity to show the Brewers and Cubs fans what Minor League baseball is all about!"
