Wisconsin Timber Rattlers News Release

FOX CITIES STADIUM -- The Burlington Bees scored four times in the top of the ninth inning against closer Edgar Guaramato to defeat the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers 4-1 Saturday night. Rattler starter Jose Escalona got a no decision despite striking out eight and giving up one hit over six shutout innings.

Jeff Dominguez, who had three hits in the game, singled to start the Timber Rattler first inning. He stole second. Then, with one out, he stole third. JP Lowen, the Burlington catcher, threw wildly to third and Dominguez cruised home for a 1-0 Rattler lead.

Escalona had a rather interesting outing. He walked five batters in the first five innings, but did not give up a hit until a one-out bloop single by Lowen in the sixth. Escalona, made it through six innings for the first time this season, matched his career high for strikeouts with eight, and left the game with a 1-0 lead.

Joe Woerman pitched a scoreless seventh and eighth innings.

Wisconsin had a chance to add to their lead in both the seventh and eighth innings against Bee reliever Cody Harkcom. In the seventh Ron garth doubled and Chao Kuan Wu sacrificed him to third. But, Eddy Hernandez struck out and Jairo Hernandez grounded out to end the inning.

In the bottom of the eighth. Wisconsin loaded the bases on back-to-back singles, a passed ball, and an intentional walk. Harkcom got out of the inning again with a force play at the plate and a double play. Those missed opportunities were very costly.

In the ninth, Wisconsin closer Edgar Guaramato retired the first batter and ran into trouble very quickly. Miguel Vega reached on an infield single and took second on a throwing error. He was replaced by pinch runner Ethien Santana.

Guaramato walked Jeremy Jirschele and hit Valentino Arce to load the bases.

Jose Duarte sent a check swing roller up the first base line. The throw to the plate was too late and Santana scored to tie the game.

Former Timber Rattler Carlos Arroyo pinch hit for Antonio Sabatini and put the Bees in front with an infield single.

The final two runs of the inning scored when Guaramato walked Chris McConnell and hit Mario Lisson, both with two outs. David Asher relieved Guaramato and got the final out, but the damage had been done. No baseball in the top of the ninth inning left the infield.

Kraig Schambough pitched a 1-2-3 bottom of the ninth inning for his third save.

Game two of the series is Sunday afternoon. Jason Snyder (2-4, 5.05ERA) is the scheduled starter for the Rattlers. Burlington will counter with Carlos Rosa (3-3, 2.41ERA). Game time is 1:05pm.
