Devil Rays Take Down Dragons

Southwest Michigan Devil Rays News Release


The Southwest Michigan Devil Rays defeated the Dayton Dragons Saturday night with a 5-3 victory. Jake McGee got the start and pitched a great game for the D-Rays before leaving to a standing ovation.

Jake McGee left the game after pitching 5 1/3 no-hit innings. Jake struck out ten Dragons while walking six. McGee was credited the win and improved his ERA to 2.77. The 19 year old pitcher regained the Midwest League strikeout lead with 65 on the season.

Aaron Walker came in to relieve McGee in the fifth inning and fanned two while giving up three hits and a run. Drew Bigda entered in the ninth inning and had a rough go of it, serving up two hits and two earned runs with a walk. Greg Dupas came in the game with two outs. Dupas only threw one pitch which was a ground out to end the game. Dupas earned the save with his lone pitch to tie the league lead with 12 saves.

J.T. Hall got the Rays going with doubles in his first two at bats. Hall finished the game going 2-4 with two RBIs.

Matt Spring entered the game with an 0-13 slump but he it ended in the bottom of the fourth inning by going yard with two outs and nobody on. Spring's homer was crushed into the seats behind the left field wall.

The Dayton Dragons manager, Billy Gardener Jr., was ejected in the sixth inning while arguing a hit by pitch on Ryan Bethel. After being ejected, Gardener continued to argue with both umpires and kicked dirt over home plate repeatedly.

The Devil Rays and Dragons will square off again tomorrow at 3:35pm. It is McCullough Family Chiropractic Family Sunday and the mascot Jumping Jack will perform between innings and will interact with children. Kids get to run the bases like the Devil Rays after the game.
