May 20, 2006 - Midwest League (MWL1)
Peoria Chiefs News Release

Peoria, IL - A two-run third is all the offense the Peoria Chiefs needed as starter Donnie Veal tied a career high with 10 strikeouts in a 2-1 win over the Beloit Snappers Saturday night at O'Brien Field in front of a crowd of 5,868 fans.

The Chiefs jumped on top in the third. Jake Muyco led off the inning with a double and advanced to third on a wild pitch. One out later, Davy Gregg hit a groundball to second fielded by Steve Tolleson. Tolleson came home with it but the ball popped out of the glove of catcher Allan De San Miguel and Muyco was safe at the plate. Jesus Valdez then split the gap in right-center to score Gregg and give the Chiefs an early 2-0 lead.

The Snappers finally got a run in the seventh. It was a homer just clearing the wall in left off the bat of Paul Kelly to cut their deficit in half at 2-1. They had a chance to tie it in the ninth with runners on first and second and only one away, but Ed Campusano struck out Kelly and MWL batting leader Erik Lis to end the game.

Veal looked untouchable on the mound. He earned his fourth win of the season going six shutout innings allowing just an infield single and a walk. Reliever Jesse Estrada gave up one run in one inning of work. Justin Rayborn was sharp in the eighth and turned it over to Campusano in the ninth who picked up his 12th save of the season. Beloit starter Oswaldo Sosa was draped with the loss, snapping his streak of three straight victorious decisions. He threw eight innings and gave up two runs on four hits. Pepsi Player of the Game Donnie Veal (LHP) -The 10 K's by the southpaw tonight is a season high and matches a career high.
