
Rascals win wild one

River City Rascals News Release
Loves Park, IL - A combined twenty runs and twenty eight hits by the River City Rascals and Rockford RiverHawks opened the second half of the season and finished in a 10-9 Rascal victory.
River City used four unanswered runs, two in the seventh and two in the eighth, to overtake the RiverHawks. Andrew Sweet's sacrifice fly to right field proved to be the game winner, scoring Greg Stone.
The Rascals took their first lead of the ballgame with a five run third. Brad Hough drove in two with a bases loaded single. Phil Laurent then followed with his sixth home run of the season with a three run shot to right to make it 5-4 River City. Jim Paduck was chased for Rockford after the Laurent homer.
Scott Fogelson started for the Rascals and allowed four of his six runs total in the first inning off six hits. The RiverHawks got to the left-hander again in the bottom of the third inning for two more when Robbie Knapp drove in his second and third RBIs of the night with his first home run in a RiverHawks uniform. Rockford tallied three in the inning to go back on top 7-5.
Will Basom drove in a run with a double in the fifth to cut the lead to one. Rockford made it 9-6 with back-to-back RBI doubles with two outs off Gary Lee in the bottom of the inning.
Shawn Balteff and Kyffin Marcum surrendered the four final runs to the Rascals, three of which were unearned.
Jonathan Miller, Brian Logan and Mike Benacka combined to toss the final 4.1 innings of shutout baseball. Benacka picked up his thirteenth save by striking out the side in the ninth. Logan (2-1) got the win going 1.1 innings and struck out two. Marcum (2-1) got saddled with the loss going .1 innings.
The Rascals (25-27) and RiverHawks (24-28) play game two of the three game series Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. from Road Ranger Stadium. Catch Josh Anderson and the River City Rascals on the road all season long on FM 104.5 KSLQ.
