Rascals Win Rain-Shortened Middle Game

MARION, Ill. - The River City Rascals prevailed 6-2 in a rain-shortened middle game of their series with the Southern Illinois Miners on Wednesday night. Play was halted with two outs in the top of the sixth, and eventually called due to a severe thunderstorm. The game went five official innings.

The Rascals scored four runs in the first inning, sending all nine men to the plate. Nolan Meadows drew a bases-loaded walk, JD Hearn drove in two more with a single, and Artemis Kadkhodaian brought in the fourth run of the frame on an RBI single. The Rascals added two more in the second, on a second bases-loaded walk to Meadows and another to Hearn.

The Miners put up two in the bottom of the third, on an RBI triple from Cletis Avery and run-scoring ground-out from Gianfranco Wawoe.

Jason Zgardowski (1-0) earned the win for the Rascals, allowing just two runs (one earned) on three hits in five innings. He walked four and struck out seven on the night. Miners starter Chase Adkins (0-2) took the loss, allowing six runs in 1 1/3 innings with six walks.

The Rascals (11-7) and Miners (8-8) will play the rubber match of the series tomorrow night, with first pitch scheduled for 6:35 p.m. CDT from Rent One Park. Alec Byrd will take the hill for River City, and will opposed by Marty Anderson for Southern Illinois.
