Rascals Win Pitchers' Duel in Series Finale

Joliet, IL - The Rascals (19-13) took the series finale 4-1 from the Joliet Slammers (12-21) on Sunday, June 21 at Silver Cross Field.

RHP Tim Koons (W, 4-0) tossed 6.0 innings and earned his fourth straight win. He surrendered just one run, four hits, and no walks with four strikeouts. The only run he allowed came on a solo homer. RHP Chandler Jagodzinski threw a perfect 1.1 inning with a strikeout. RHP Zeb Sneed (S, 4) allowed just one hit over 1.2 inning and earned the save.

The Rascals scored the game's first run in the fifth inning. 2B Hector Crespo hit a leadoff single, stole second base, and advanced to third on a throwing error. 3B Josh Silver then singled to centerfield, scoring Crespo.

CF Curran Redal was hit by a pitch to begin the sixth inning. He then stole second base and advanced to third on a groundout. C Josh Ludy drove in Redal on a fielder's choice.

Joliet's only run came on a Casey Fletcher solo homerun in the seventh inning.

Redal led off the eighth with a walk, stole second, and and went to third on an error. After an intentional walk to Ludy, 1B Danny Canela hit an RBI sacrifice fly.

The Rascals added another insurance run in the ninth inning. RF Zach Kometani walked, and Silver singled. Redal followed with a single that plated a run.

Slammers starter Kevin Walter (L, 0-2) surrendered three runs, one earned, on five hits and two walks over 8.0 frames. Sam Moore tossed 0.1 inning and allowed one run. Kevin McNorton added 0.2 inning of relief.

The Rascals open a three-game series against the Rockford Aviators on Tuesday, June 23 at T.R. Hughes Ballpark at 6:35 p.m. CDT.
