Rascals Fall in Rain-Shortened Game

River City Rascals News Release
Joliet, IL - The Rascals (18-13) lost a rain-shortened affair 3-2 to the Joliet Slammers (12-20) on Saturday, June 20 at Silver Cross Field. The game ended in the bottom of the eighth inning due to inclement weather. RHP Joe Scanio (L, 4-3) tossed 6.0 innings of work. He surrendered three runs, two earned, on 10 hits but no walk while striking out two batters. He exited the game because of a rain delay between the sixth and seventh innings. RHP Derek Cape threw 1.0 scoreless inning. RHP Will Schierholz surrendered a hit to the only man he faced in the bottom of the eighth inning.
Joliet took a 1-0 lead in the third inning. J.D. Williams hit a leadoff single. He then advanced to third base on a dropped pickoff attempt by 1B Zach Kometani. Nate Roberts then hit an RBI single to right field.
C Josh Ludy hit his fifth homerun, a solo shot, to tie the game in the top of the fourth frame.
Charlie White led off the fifth inning with a single, stole second base, and advanced to third on a groundout. Mike Garza then singled home White to regain the lead.
Max Casper hit a solo homer in the sixth and doubled the Slammers' advantage.
CF Curran Redal singled, LF Brian Hansen reached on an error, and C Josh Ludy was hit by a pitch to load the bases in the eighth inning. 3B Talor Ard then hit an RBI sac fly to cut the Rascals' deficit to just one.
The game then ended in the bottom of the inning due to rain.
Hunter Ackerman (W, 1-1) allowed just one run on four hits and a walk. Davis Kubiak surrendered one unearned run, and Navery Moore (S, 5) tossed 1.0 scoreless frame.
The Rascals and Joliet Slammers will play the rubber match on Sunday, June 21 at Silver Cross Field at 1:05 p.m. CDT.
