Rascals Win Finale 4-1

June 14, 2019 - Frontier League (FL) - River City Rascals News Release

SAUGET, Ill. - The River City Rascals salvaged a game in their series against the Gateway Grizzlies on Thursday night, winning the finale by a score of 4-1 at GCS Ballpark. The victory snapped a season-worst three-game losing streak. Alex Winkelman (4-2) struck out eight over six innings, allowing just one run on three hits.

The Rascals didn't record their first hit until the fourth inning, when Trevor Achenbach lined a pitch over the fence in left-center to put the Rascals up 1-0. He made it 2-0 Rascals with his RBI groundout in the sixth. James Morisano doubled the lead with a two-run blast in the seventh, his first of the year. Jamey Smart singled in the lone Grizzlies run on an RBI single in the seventh.

The Grizzlies trailed 4-1 and had the bases loaded with nobody out in the seventh after Smart's single, but Anthony Herrera came on in relief and retired the next three hitters in order to maintain the Rascals lead. Tanner Cable pitched a scoreless eighth, and Yeison Medina closed out the ninth for his second save of the year.

Grizzlies starter Dominic Topoozian (3-1) suffered the loss, allowing four runs (one earned) in 6 2/3 innings of work.

The Rascals (17-13) now head to Marion, Ill. to take on the Southern Illinois Miners in a three-game weekend set beginning tomorrow night. First pitch for the series opener is set for 7:05 p.m. CDT from Rent One Park.
