River City Rascals News Release
CRESTWOOD, Ill. - In a game that saw first pitch delayed nearly an hour and-a-half due to stormy weather, the River City Rascals eventually fell 4-3 in 11 innings to the Windy City ThunderBolts on Saturday night. Blair Beck drove in the winning run for the Bolts, evening the series at a game apiece. Patrick Mathis had four hits, including three doubles, and drove in two runs in the victory.
The ThunderBolts scored first, getting an RBI double from Mathis in the third. The Rascals then scored two in the fifth, with the first run scoring on a double-play ball and the second on an RBI single from Andrew Penner. The Bolts tied the game with an RBI groundout from Randy Perez in the sixth, and took the lead on another run-scoring double from Mathis in the seventh. Artemis Kadkhodaian tied the game 3-3 with an RBI single in the eighth.
The game then entered extra innings. In the eleventh, the Rascals had runners at first and third with one out, but after a fly ball to right field, James Morisano was cut down at the plate trying to score after tagging up. The Bolts started the bottom of the frame with a runner at second (per the International Tie-Breaker rule), and Beck, the lead-off hitter, singled up the middle to give the Bolts the win.
Rasclas starter Travis McQueen went 5 1/3 innings, allowing two runs. Reliever Joe Mortillaro (1-2) took the loss, allowing the unearned game-winner. Bolts starter Kenny Mathews had his start cut short due to injury, but pitched into the fifth, also allowing two runs. Blake Hickman (1-1) earned the win, pitching two scoreless innings to close out the game.
The Rascals (12-9) and ThunderBolts (10-10) play the rubber match of their series tomorrow, with first pitch scheduled for 2:05 p.m. CDT from Ozinga Field. Alex Winkelman is expected to take the mound in the finale.
