Rockford RiverHawks News Release
O'FALLON, Mo. - The Rockford RiverHawks wasted numerous scoring opportunities on Monday. The River City Rascals took advantage of nearly every chance and beat the RiverHawks, 13-2.
Rockford left 10 men on base, six of them in scoring position. The RiverHawks have lost seven of 10 games since the Frontier League All-Star break.
River City scored three times in the first inning after Rockford starter Jay Monti had struck out the first two batters. Scott Robinson, Ryan Wehrle and Chris Colton singled to give the Rascals a 1-0 lead. They added two unearned runs after a pair of errors.
The Rascals scored twice in the third inning, twice in the fifth and scored six runs in the eighth inning. Danny Sawyer hit a two-run homer in the eighth.
Rockford broke the shutout with two runs in the top of the eighth. Brandon Cohen extended his career-best hitting streak to 13 games with a RBI double and scored on a Doug Sanders groundout.
Josh Lowey (5-1) pitched seven shutout innings for the win. Monti (5-6) didn't make it out of the fifth inning and suffered his third straight loss.
The Rascals have a chance to sweep the three-game series at 7:05 p.m. Tuesday.
