O'FALLON, MO - The Kings scored two in the first and never trailed in a 12-4 win Wednesday night over the Rascals at T.R. Hughes Ballpark. River City dropped into a second place tie with Southern Illinois, a game behind Windy City for first place.

Kalamazoo (50-30) blew the game open with three in the fifth, two in the sixth and four more in the seventh. Amos Ramon launched a three run home run in the fifth to put the Kings up 6-0. It was the last pitch Stephen Flake (3-4) would throw on the night.

Flake surrendered six runs (five earned) on six hits in 4.2 innings. He walked six and struck out five in his fourth start for the Rascals.

The Kings added two in the sixth on a Joe Ramos single and a throwing error by Danny Sawyer, one of three on the night. Both runs were charged to Michael Alcorn, who made his professional debut with the Rascals.

Four consecutive singles in the seventh made it 12-2 Kalamazoo. Kyle Higgins knocked in a pair and Scott Billak drove in one against Jake Edwards. Brendan Murphy added his second RBI on a groundout in the frame.

The Rascals (44-35) touched up John Brownell (10-4) for two runs in his six innings of work. Ernie Banks singled home Scott Houin in the sixth and Jorge Gutierrez grounded into a double play with the bases loaded and nobody out in the fifth to plate the first Rascal tally.

Brownell allowed the two runs on four hits with five strikeouts and three walks in the six innings.

Banks knocked in two more with a double in the eighth and finished the game 2-4 with three runs batted in. Ryan Wehrle continued his hitting streak with a double in the fifth and now has a hit in nine straight games. JoJo Batten was 2-4 with a run scored.

The Rascals fell to 3-2 this season against the Kings and wrap up the season series tomorrow night. Daniel Howard (5-5) will go in the rubber game of the series opposite Joe DiPietro (7-5). First pitch is at 7:05 p.m. from T.R. Hughes Ballpark.
