Southern Illinois Miners News Release
MARION Ill. - The Southern Illinois Miners needed a walk-off single by Jereme Milons in the 10th inning to defeat Lake Erie, 4-3, putting them in a three-way tie for first place.
Andrew Sweet led off the 10th inning with a walk. The newly acquired Brad Netzel was called on to pitch run for Sweet. Steven Holdren followed with a single to put runners on first and second. Will Block laid down a sacrifice bunt, advancing Netzel and Holdren a base each. Jereme Milons lined a grounder just past a diving Andrew Davis at third base, scoring Netzel and giving Southern Illinois the victory.
Joe Augustine had a stellar performance on the mound for the Southern Illinois Miners. Augustine allowed just a single run over 6.2 innings. He scattered three hits, two of them to Lake Erie designated hitter Gordie Gronkowski. Augustine's only trouble came in the second inning. He served up a lead-off double to Gronkowski. After retiring the next two hitters, he walked three straight Crushers to force in a run and narrowed the lead to 2-1.
Jake McMurran relieved Augustine in the seventh inning. McMurran allowed two runs to tie the ball game at 3-3.
Southern Illinois put two runs on the board in the bottom of the first inning to break a scoreless tie. Tony Roth scored on an RBI single by Adam Hale to make it 1-0. Two batters later, Andrew Sweet drew a bases-loaded walk that forced Joey Metropoulos home and extended the lead, 2-0.

Game time is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Righty Jon Haldis (3-2, 3.75) will start for the Sliders. The Miners will send Steve Spurgeon (0-1, 3.18) to the hill.
