
Rascals Come from Behind for Win

O'Fallon, MO - The Rascals (32-26) defeated the Frontier Greys (26-30) 7-4 in their series opener on Friday, July 24 at T.R. Hughes Ballpark.
RHP Joe Scanio (W, 7-4) earned his second straight win after tossing 6.0 innings. He allowed four runs, but only two were earned due to two errors. The Rascals starter surrendered eight hits and no walks while striking out four batters. RHP Will Schierholz (S, 2) was the only man to pitch out of the bullpen for the Rascals. He tossed 3.0 perfect innings, retiring all nine men he faced. Schierholz struck out five batters, including the final two hitters of the game. The 3.0 innings was a career-high for Schierholz.
Frontier took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on an unearned run. Shane Brown was hit by a pitch to lead off the game. Julio Rodriguez then laid down a sacrifice bunt, and Brown advanced all the way to third. He then scored on a throwing error by 1B Marc Flores.
Each team scored twice in the second inning. Dillon Haupt hit a lead off double in the top of the frame. Scanio's second hit by pitch and a single loaded the bases with one out. A potential doubleplay groundball then went through the legs of SS Josh Silver, and two runs scored.
LF Brian Hansen, 3B Taylor Ard, and Flores hit three straight doubles to begin the bottom of the second inning. Ard and Flores each drove in a run and cut the deficit to 3-2.
Haupt hit a solo homerun in the top of the fourth frame to double the Greys' lead.
In the bottom of the inning, Ard led off with a walk, stole second base, advanced to third on a groundout, and scored on a sacrifice fly by DH Josh Ludy.
2B Hector Crespo opened the fifth with a double, and C Jackson Slaid singled, putting men at the corners. The Rascals then completed a double steal as Slaid swiped second and Crespo came home to score. Slaid scored on a sac fly by Hansen to take a 5-4 lead.
Flores singled, Ludy singled, and Silver was hit by a pitch to load the bases in the sixth inning. RF Kelton Caldwell, who made his Rascals debut, then hit a two-run double over the centerfielder Ben Lodge's head for two insurance runs. Caldwell went 2-for-4 in his debut.
Greys starter Bobby Shore (L, 4-4) took the loss after allowing five runs in 5.0 innings of work. Nick McBride surrendered a pair of runs in one inning, and Kyle Bogese tossed 2.0 perfect frames.
The Rascals and Frontier Greys continue their three-game series on Saturday, July 25 at T.R. Hughes Ballpark at 6:35 p.m. CDT.
