Joliet, IL - Adam Giacalone tosses a quality start and Nate Roberts homers in the Joliet Slammers (24-35) 3-1 loss to the Windy City ThunderBolts (22-36) on Saturday night.

After two innings of scoreless baseball the Slammers got on the board in their half of the third. DH Nate Roberts crushed a 1-0 pitch over the right-field fence to give the Slammers the lead against lefty Austin Wright. Roberts fifth home run of the year put the Slammers on top 1-0.

The ThunderBolts answered with a run in the fourth against pitcher Adam Giacalone. 1B Austin Gallagher reached with a single and LF Max White doubled to tie the game at 1-1. Giacalone then struck out two straight to get out of the inning.

The ThunderBolts scored again in the fifth. With two outs, CF Coco Johnson singled followed by a DH Michael Torres base knock. Gallagher singled to right driving in Johnson, giving the ThunderBolts a 2-1 lead. A throwing error by Rodriguez allowed Torres to score before Giacalone got out of the inning with the Slammers trailing by two runs.

The Slammers struggled to get the offense going after the Roberts homer in the third. They put a runner on second in the ninth inning before closer Joel Lima closed the door. The Slammers lost to their cross-suburb rivals by a 3-1 final. Our Merchants and manufacturers Bank Player of the Game was Nate Roberts. He went 1-for-3 hitting his fifth homerun of the year and registered a walk. Joliet will conclude this series tomorrow night at Silver Cross Field, first pitch slated for 5:05pm CT.
