FLORENCE FREEDOM (28-30) vs. SOUTHERN ILLINOIS MINERS (37-21)

Saturday, July 25, 2015 - 6:05 p.m. ET

UC Health Stadium - Florence, KY

Game #59 - Home Game #35 (28-30), (15-19)

LHP #8 Patrick McGrath (Pro Debut) vs. RHP #33 Adam Lopez (7-0, 2.13 ERA)

Last time out...

The Freedom knocked off the Miners by a score of 2-1 on Friday. Florence scored two runs in the first frame and used fantastic pitching performances to outlast the Miners. Jeremy Gooding pitched seven innings allowing only an unearned run and struck out 10 Miners batters. The Michigan native has tossed seven consecutive starts of two runs or less. The victory was Gooding's third consecutive win. Trailing 1-0 heading to the bottom of the first, Florence took the lead for good. Justin Harris got things going with a single and moved to second on a Zac Mitchell ground out. Collins Cuthrell drove Harris in, doubling into the right-center gap to tie the game at one. Cuthrell came home one out later, when Sam Eberle tripled. The Florence bullpen came in for the final two innings to shut the door. Ethan Gibbons delivered a scoreless eighth inning, striking out one and Ed Kohout closed things out in the ninth, fanning one to earn his 12th save of the season.

For Starters...

Patrick McGrath makes his professional debut tonight. McGrath led the Ohio Valley Conference in wins in 2015 with Belmont University as he posted a 9-4 record with a 4.40 ERA in 17 appearances, 13 starts. He garnered national attention when he beat SEC powerhouse Vanderbilt University twice.

Going for the series win...

If the Freedom win tonight it would be their fourth home series victory of the season. Their last home series win was July 3-5 when they took two of three from the River City Rascals. Prior to that, the Freedom hadn't won a road series since their first two of the year, a sweep of Joliet and two of three from the Greys. A win tonight would also make the Freedom the first team to beat Southern Illinois in a series away from Rent One Park this season.

Getting closer to .500...

With a win tonight the Freedom would get to one game under .500 for the first time since May 29 when they were 6-7 on the year. Since then they have been as far below as 9 games under .500.

Offensive woes...

The Freedom have only scored two runs in each of their past four games. But they are 2-2 during that time.

July is hot...

Ozzy Gonzalez has been the Freedom's hottest hitter in the month of July, checking in at .344 on the month in 32 at bats with four doubles and four RBI.

Walking it out...

The Miners (212 walks) and the Freedom (211 walks) are second and third in the Frontier League respectively this season in getting on base via the base on balls.

Run like the wind...

The Freedom's 98 stolen bases are first in the league; they have also been caught 41 times, the most in the league. Southern Illinois is the exact opposite, as they have the fewest steals (24) and the fewest caught stealing (6).

Home Sweet Home?

The Freedom's home record this season is 15-19, the third worst mark in the league. Meanwhile, the Miners are the best road team in the Frontier League at 18-7.

On the mound...

The Freedom's team ERA continues to go down each month. In May the Freedom had an ERA of 5.61. In June they had an ERA of 4.31. So far in July their ERA is a sparkling 2.63.

Five or more runs...

When the Freedom score five or more runs in a game they have a record of 20-3 in 2015.

Glovework...

The Freedom's fielding percentage of .982 is the best in the Frontier League.

Transaction Wire...

The Freedom placed catcher Gaby Juarbe on the 60-Day Disabled List today and they signed LHP Patrick McGrath.
