EVANSVILLE, IN - The River City Rascals walked off the field for the last time in 2008 winners, completing a sweep of the Evansville Otters with a 5-3 win Wednesday night at Bosse Field.

In Toby Rumfield's final game as manager, his team finished with a 47-49 record, adding 11 wins to their 2007 total and four games out of a playoff birth.

Phil Laurent gave the Rascals an early lead against left hander Kai Tuomi in the first with a single. It could have been 2-0 if not for a put out at home plate as center fielder Gered Mochizuki nailed Brad Hough trying to score to end the inning.

The Otters took their only lead of the game in the second against left hander Scott Fogelson. Two runs came in on an error in right field by Phil Laurent. Laurent drifted back and was at the warning track at a ball hit by Mochizuki. He would drop the baseball and runners from second and third scored on the play to make it 2-1 Evansville. Fogelson (5-10) would later pick up the win, lasting five innings.

Jeff Miller did not allow the Otters to enjoy the lead for long. After a two out single by Laurent to keep the third inning alive, Miller teed off for his fifteenth and final home run of the season to right field to make it 3-2 Rascals. Miller's fifteen would lead the Rascals in 2008.

Laurent gave the Rascals a two run cushion with a two out double to score Hough from first in the fifth. Tuomi's night would be done after the sixth as he allowed four earned runs and fell to 3-5.

With the score 4-3 in the eighth, the Otters had second and third with one out. But like the majority of their season, they left runners on base as Greg Stone made a diving snag on a line drive for the second out. Jonathan Miller then replaced Brian Logan and would record the final four outs of the ballgame, facing only four batters, to pick up his ninth save.

Luke Barganier singled home the final fun of the season in the ninth to make it 5-3.

For the season the Rascals finished 28-23 at home and 19-26 on the road. Fans can continue to follow the Rascals this offseason by logging on to RiverCityRascals.com.
