Ogden Raptors News Release
The Ogden Raptors scored six runs in the fourth inning of an 8-4 win over the Idaho Falls Chukars Saturday night at Melaleuca Field, snapping a six-game road-losing streak.
In the top of the fourth, trailing 3-0, the Raptors exploded for six runs. Colin Hering and Justin Chigbogu started the inning with consecutive singles. Two batters later, Austin Cowen and Melvin Santana drew back-to-back walks to push home a run. Theo Alexander then hit a two-run single to center. Jimmy Allen followed with a run-scoring single that plated Santana and an error from the centerfielder DonAndre Clark let Alexander score and move Allen to second base. Two batters later, Devan Ahart drove home Allen to give the Raptors a 6-3 lead.
In the fifth, after the Chukars got a run back, Julian Leon hit a home run for the second straight game, a solo shot to right to put the Raptors ahead 7-4.
Raptors starter Victor Gonzalez earned his first win of the season, pitching five innings and allowing four runs with four strikeouts.
The Raptors' bullpen was dominant to close out the game. Vaughn Hayward pitched three perfect innings striking out five to get to the ninth. Then, A.J. Vanegas closed out the game with a perfect ninth inning to preserve the win.
The Raptors and Chukars will finish their four-game series Sunday. Trevor Oaks will make his first professional start for the Raptors against Jake Newberry. Game starts at 4:00 and can be heard on 97.5 The Zone.
