LATE RUNS DOOM VOYAGERS

The Voyagers gave up three runs in the eighth and another in the ninth to turn a 3-1 lead into a 5-3 defeat Friday night at Centene Stadium. Great Falls had held that lead since the second when Ethan Gross and Ryan Jones each picked up RBIs to break an early 1-1 tie, marking the first professional RBI for both. The loss spoiled another strong outing from starter Dane Stone who set a career-high in strikeouts for the second consecutive start. It also brings Great Falls back into a first place tie with Missoula.

TRIPLE TROUBLE

Great Falls collected a season-high three triples in the ballgame last night, marking the second time  they have notched multiple three-baggers. Hunter Jones started the first with a triple to center, and later in the frame Jake Peter followed suit to bring him home to tie the game at one. Jones tripled again in the fourth, this time to right, but was stranded at third.

STONE DOMINANT AGAIN

Voyager starter Dane Stone continued his run of good starts to start the season with his best effort yet last night. The righty gave up a run in the first, and then shutdown the Helena offense the rest of the game. The Miami, Fla., native lasted a career-high seven frames, allowing just the one run on four hits. Stone did not walk a batter, and for the second straight start, set a new career best in strikeouts, whiffing 10 Brewers on the night. The former Marlins farmhand also finished his night strong, retiring the final 11 batters he faced.

UP NEXT: MISSOULA

After their brief two-game homestand, the Voyagers head to Missoula to begin a weekend series with the Osprey tonight. Missoula leads the season series 4-2 coming into the series, with the road team taking all six contests so far. The Osprey swept a four-game set at Centene Stadium last week, and Great Falls won in Missoula on June 19 and 20.
