Raptors Lose Second Straight

Ogden Raptors News Release

OGDEN, UT - A promising start petered out in the middle and late innings Thursday night as the Ogden Raptors fell, 11-8, to the visiting Orem Owlz.

The Raptors went on the board first with a two-out Marco Hernandez infield hit to score Jimmy Titus in the third.

Orem capitalized the next inning on a one-out error to score twice, the only blemish in starter Jeronimo Castro's four solid innings. Castro allowed just two hits and struck out six, with both runs unearned.

In the home half of the fourth, the first two Raptors batters reached on throwing errors. Jon Littell hit a sacrifice fly to tie the game, and Hernandez singled up the middle for a 3-2 lead. Hernandez later scored on a wild pitch, and Sam McWilliams sprinted across on a Ryan Ward sacrifice fly.

Ogden's four-run lead quickly disappeared with a five-run Owlz fifth. After the hosts pulled within one in the sixth, Orem put together a two-run rally in the seventh to go up 9-6.

After leaving the bases loaded in the seventh, the Raptors scored twice in the eighth. McWilliams slashed a one-out double down the line. Andy Pages was hit by a pitch with two out, and Justin Yurchak greeted a new pitcher with a sinking line drive to left to knock in both with a double.

Once again, the Ogden rally went for naught. In the top of the ninth, a double and home run vaulted the Owlz back up by three, and the Raptors couldn't score in the bottom of the ninth.

Friday night Ogden hosts Orem for game two of the four-game series at 7:00. It's a FREE Tee Friday, with the first 300 fans through the gates receiving a free Raptors T-shirt!
