Ogden Raptors News Release
OGDEN - The Idaho Falls Chukars handed the Ogden Raptors their fifth straight loss in 4-3 decision Thursday night at Lindquist Field.
Chukars starter Yender Caramo, coming off an eight-inning, no-hit effort, kept the Raptors in check for six innings. The right-hander allowed just one run on a solo homer by Hank Yates and earned his sixth win of the season.
Idaho Falls grabbed the lead in the first. Carlos Garcia and Michael Antonio hit consecutive singles to start the game. Two groundouts to first by Elier Hernandez and Frank Schwindel brought in Garcia and gave Idaho Falls a 1-0 lead.
The Greybirds scored an unearned run in the second. With two outs, Alex Marquez reached on an error by shortstop Dillon Moyer. Logan Davis doubled him home to left-center to extend the lead to 2-0.
After the Raptors got their lone run off Caramo on Yates' third-inning homer, Idaho Falls added another in the fourth inning. Again with two outs, Alexis Rivera singled and stole second. Marquez plated Rivera with a single to right field and put Idaho Falls ahead 3-1.
Antonio started the eighth inning with his first home run for the Chukars on a line drive out to left field, extending the Chukars' lead to 4-1.
The Raptors tried a late-inning comeback, but fell just short. In the bottom of the eighth inning, Yates reached on a fielding error by the third baseman Mauricio Ramos. Two batters later, Yates scored on a double down the left-field line by Adam Law, pulling the Raptors to within two, 4-2.
The Raptors came close to forcing extra innings for the second straight night. With two outs, Justin Chigbogu hit his first triple of the season to right-center field. Yates continued his great night with a triple of his own into the right-field corner and represented the tying run on third base with two outs. Unfortunately, Moyer struck out for the fourth time to end the game with the Raptors a run short.
Ogden starter Jake Fisher notched a quality start. In seven innings, the lefty allowed three runs, two earned, on six hits with six strikeouts and no walks.
Welington Serrano made his Ogden debut. In one inning, he allowed Antonio's home run and has no pitched at three levels in 2013. He began the season in the Dominican Summer League and posted an ERA under 2.00 as a starter. After two outings in the Arizona League, he earned a promotion to Ogden.
The Raptors and Chukars will play their last game against each other Friday. Victor Araujo takes the mound for Ogden against Jake Junis. Game starts at 7:00 and can be heard on 97.5 The Zone. Hall of Famer and former Ogden Dodger manager Tommy Lasorda is expected to be at Lindquist Field Friday for the game.
