OREM - The Orem Owlz snapped a three-game losing streak Thursday night at the Home of the Owlz and beat the Grand Junction Rockies 4-1. They won for just the second time in seven tries at home against the Rockies this season.
Orem has three games remaining in the 2013 regular season: one tomorrow at home against Grand Junction and two on the road at Idaho Falls September 7-8.
Eric Aguilera stayed hot at the plate with an RBI single in the 1st, and Cal Towey scored on a fielding error during the same play for a 2-0 Owlz (37-35, 17-17 Second Half, 22-23 Pioneer South) lead. Aguilera entered the day with a league-best .458 (11-for-24) average over the last seven games, and went 2-for-3 with a walk and an RBI in the win. Michael Fish added an RBI double in the 3rd and Cambric Moye led off the 4th with a home run to extend the lead to 4-1.
The Owlz scored one run in a double steal that had Kody Eaves cross home after he led off the 8th with a single. The Rockies (33-40, 12-23 Second Half, 20-25 Pioneer South) pulled to within one run of the Owlz on the strength of a Jose Briceno three-run homer to left in the 9th. Jonathan Van Eaton recorded a strikeout and fly out to left after the homer to end the game.
Arjenis Fernandez (W, 4-3) had a no-hitter through four innings, and finished the night by allowing one earned run on two hits with two walks and one strikeout. 12 of the 15 Grand Junction outs against Fernandez came by way of the ground ball, including two double plays. Kyle Hunter struck out the side in the 6th as part of his second appearance with the Owlz.
Orem plays its final home game of the 2013 regular season tomorrow with a 7:05 p.m. MDT first pitch against Grand Junction. To listen live for free, go to audio.oremowlz.com.
