Ottawa Voyageurs News Release

(QUEBEC, QC) July 6, 2008 - The Ottawa Rapidz could not stop the Quebec City Capitales and went on to lose the game 14 to 1 Sunday afternoon at Stade Municipal in Quebec City.

Patrick Deschênes scored the first run for the Capitales in the first inning when Pat Scalabrini singled. The Capitales added another run in the second on an rbi-single by Josh Colafemina.

The Rapidz cut the lead to one run in the fourth inning when Jabe Bergeron hit a sacrifice fly in right field to score Jose de los Santos.

Quebec took that point back in the bottom of the fourth on a passed ball by Jose Salas. They added to their lead in the seventh inning, scoring twice on an error by de los Santos and exploded with nine runs in the eighth inning. Mike Goss hit his second homerun of the season, a three-run shot in deep right center field.

Michel Simard (6-1) earned the win, while Adam Hawes (2-5) took the loss. A rare sight during the game was SS Juan Infante on the pitcher's mound. Infante pitched 2/3 of the eighth inning, allowing one hit.

The Rapidz and the Capitales conclude their 5-game series on Monday, July 7th. The game is scheduled to begin at 7:05pm with Tanner Watson (1-1, 3.60 ERA) squaring off against T.J. Stanton (2-1, 1.67 ERA). The team is back in Ottawa on July 9th when Cecil Fielder and his Atlantic City Surf visit to wrap up the first half of the season.
