Rapids Youth Players Announce College Commitments

COMMERCE CITY, Colo. (Wednesday, February 5, 2014) - Several Colorado Rapids youth players announced today their commitments to college soccer programs, with five from the club's Under-18 Development Academy Team signing with NCAA Division I schools and two from the Colorado Rapids Youth Soccer Club also announcing their schools. The players formalized their intentions in a National Signing Day ceremony at Dick's Sporting Goods Park on Wednesday evening, with additional players expected to finalize their decisions in the coming weeks.

"It's exciting that these players will get to continue playing soccer at a competitive level while getting a quality education," said Rapids Senior Director of Youth Development Brian Crookham. "It has been a pleasure watching these young people develop and we look forward to following their successes at the college level."

The five Rapids Under-18 Team players who announced their commitments today are:

Jovanni Chavez - Liberty University

Hometown: Longmont

Position: Midfielder

Kortne Ford - University of Denver

Hometown: Greeley

Position: Defender

Jacob Hanlin - University of Portland

Hometown: Centennial

Position: Forward

Dakota Peterson - Drexel University

Hometown: Denver

Position: Midfielder

Kurtis Young - University of Portland

Hometown: Parker

Position: Defender

The two Colorado Rapids Youth Soccer Club players are:

Kyran Johnson - Upper Iowa University (NCAA II)

Hometown: Parker

Position: Goalkeeper

Heather Thompson - Trinidad State (Junior College)

Hometown: Aurora

Position: Goalkeeper
