Rapids Visit Reigning Supporters' Shield Winners in Search of Fifth Unbeaten Road Result
April 26, 2024 - Major League Soccer (MLS)
Colorado Rapids News Release
Following their home victory over FC Dallas, the Colorado Rapids will embark on a two-game road stint, first taking on FC Cincinnati on Saturday, April 27. Kickoff at TQL Stadium against the reigning Supporters' Shield winners is set for 5:30 p.m. MT (Apple TV-MLS Season Pass, Altitude Sports Radio 92.5AM).
The Rapids enter the match on a four-game unbeaten streak after collecting two wins and two draws in the past month, including their most recent win over FC Dallas. An own goal and finish from Calvin Harris earned Colorado all three points in the 2-1 result. The Rapids have scored in eight of the total nine games played this season, with ten goals scored across the last four games alone.
Striker Kévin Cabral recorded his first assist of the season against the Texas side with his cross on Harris' strike to double the lead. The Frenchman has contributed to two game-changing moments so far this season, first finishing off a free-kick chance by Djordje Mihailovic in the 88th minute against Seattle to equalize, then assisting Harris' goal against Dallas.
Additional Rapids reached significant milestones in the last matchup, including Cole Bassett reaching 106 regular season appearances with the club. His start officially surpassed Dillon Serna for most appearances by a Colorado Homegrown player. Midfielders Lamine Diack and Jasper Löffelsend made their home debuts when they subbed on in the 87th minute.
Captain Keegan Rosenberry and Moïse Bombito have the opportunity to reach milestones of their own against FC Cincinnati this weekend. Rosenberry is approaching his 146th start with the club, which would tie the defender with Rapids legend, Marcelo Balboa, for fourth-most starts in club history. A 90-minute performance would also tally 20,000 regular-season minutes in MLS for Rosenberry. Bombito can establish his new single-season career high for regular-season starts in MLS (9) against Cincinnati, as well.
FC Cincinnati hopes to ride the momentum of their own recent win, as well, as the 2023 Supporters' Shield winners traveled to Atlanta in Week 10 and played to a 2-1 scoreline. 2023 MVP Luciano Acosta collected a goal and an assist in Mercedes-Benz Stadium to lift his side to victory, earning a Team of the Matchday honor in the process.
Saturday's contest will be the fourth meeting between the two sides, and only the second time the Rapids have played at TQL Stadium. They last met and bested the home side in Cincinnati in June 2021, playing to a 2-0 result.
Colorado and Cincinnati's last meeting in May 2023 was at DICK'S Sporting Goods Park, where former Rapids striker Dominique Badji scored the lone goal of the game to give the Eastern Conference side the victory. Calvin Harris made his first start with the Rapids in that game after being acquired from Cincinnati in the offseason.
