Colorado Rapids News Release
The Colorado Rapids aim to extend their unbeaten streak on the road as they travel to San Jose to take on the Earthquakes this Saturday, April 13. Kickoff is set for 8:30 p.m. MT from PayPal Park (Apple TV-MLS Season Pass, Altitude Sports Radio 92.5AM).
Colorado enters the Western Conference matchup fresh off a 2-2 draw with Inter Miami CF in the two team's historic first meeting in league history. Rafael Navarro and Cole Bassett each found the back of the net against Gerardo "Tata" Martino's side over the 90 minutes at Chase Stadium, Navarro from the penalty spot in the 45th minute and Bassett in the dying moments to equalize with Maimi in the 88th minute. The result against the reigning Leagues Cup champions extends the Rapids' road unbeaten streak to three consecutive matches.
The grit Colorado showed to equalize late marks the fourth goal scored in the last 15 minutes of the second half over the 2024 campaign. Only Minnesota United and Chicago Fire have recorded more goals in the final stages of matches with five apiece.
Multiple Rapids reached milestones in the contest in Ft. Lauderdale. Lamine Diack made his MLS and Rapids debut in the draw, subbing on in the 85th minute to bolster the attack. Colorado Homegrown Sebastian Anderson recorded his first start of the 2024 season at left back, playing all 90 minutes. Calvin Harris' well-timed, perfectly-weighted pass to set up Bassett's game-tying goal was his first assist of the season, adding onto his goal scored in Portland to start the season for a total of 1g/1a goal contributions in seven games this season. Striker Kévin Cabral tallied 21 minutes on Saturday, surpassing 5,000 minutes played in MLS regular season play.
San Jose, currently sitting last in the Western Conference standings with a 1-6-0 record, enters the matchup on the heels of a back-and-forth 4-3 loss to Austin FC at Q2 Stadium. Striker Cristian Espinoza recorded two assists in the contest, helping Paul Marie to open the scoring in the 20th minute and later finding Amahl Pellegrino to tie the game in the 74th before Austin found the back of the net once more to close the game. Espinoza was awarded a spot on the Team of the Matchday bench for his efforts. Jeremy Ebobisse was the third goal scorer against Austin, collecting a 57th-minute goal assisted by Niko Tsakiris.
