Colorado Rapids News Release
COMMERCE CITY, Colo. (Friday, January 25, 2013) - The Colorado Rapids have signed midfielder Nick LaBrocca, a 2011 All-Star who also played 61 games with the Rapids from 2007-2009, after acquiring his rights in a trade with Chivas USA on Tuesday. LaBrocca, 28, is already in preseason camp with the Rapids and will travel with the team to Arizona next week for the Desert Friendlies presented by Tucson FC.
"Nick is an experienced, two-way midfielder who has proven himself in our league and in his previous time with the Rapids," said Rapids Technical Director Paul Bravo. "We're happy to sign him as we continue to add depth and strength to our squad."
LaBrocca, 28, was drafted by the Rapids with the 35th overall selection in the 2007 MLS SuperDraft, and played two first-team matches with Colorado in his first year, while also leading the club to the Reserve Division championship. He became a regular starter over the next two seasons, playing 30 games in 2008 and 29 in 2009, before a 2010 trade to Toronto FC that brought Marvell Wynne to the Rapids. He moved to Chivas USA in 2011, when he played all 34 games, scoring eight goals and being named to the MLS All-Star Team. In his MLS career, he has 15 goals in 152 regular-season matches (141 starts).
The Rapids will see their first competitive action of the 2013 preseason next week in Arizona, and will later face Chivas USA on February 15 in the Las Vegas ProSoccer Challenge. To purchase season tickets for the Rapids' 2013 campaign, visit www.ColoradoRapids.com or call 303-825-GOAL.
