February 1, 2005 - Major League Soccer (MLS)
Colorado Rapids News Release

The Colorado Rapids have signed veteran midfielder Chris Henderson to a new multi-year contract, the team announced today. Details of the contract were not made public. "We are extremely happy to have Chris continue his career with our team," said Head Coach Fernando Clavijo. "His speed and offensive vision on the wing will fit very well the formation and style of play that this team is trying to achieve."

Henderson's contributions as a starter in 29 games proved invaluable to the Rapids' success in the 2004 season when he netted three goals and recorded five assists for the Black and Blue, which put him second on the team in points with a total of 11. He became the all-time leading scorer in Rapids history with an assist in the 51st minute of the Rapids' 2-1 win over D.C. United on May 22, giving him 101 career points in a Colorado uniform.

The six-year Rapids midfielder ranks second in MLS all-time games played with 256, third in MLS all-time minutes played with 21,626, and seventh in all-time assists with 71 in his nine seasons in the league.

"I'm happy to be able to continue my career as a Rapids player," said Henderson. "I've always been proud to wear the Rapids colors and now I'm proud to be part of the Clavijo era with the team."

In 2004, Henderson also took home the MLS Humanitarian of the Year award, given out to the MLS player who makes the most positive contributions to his local community over the course of the season. Henderson was selected the winner as a result of his extensive charitable work with the Rapids and his own new charitable non-profit, The Chris Henderson Foundation.
