Rapids Get Back on Track in 3-0 Win over Timbers

COMMERCE CITY, Colo. - The Colorado Rapids jumped out to an early lead en route to a 3-0 win over Portland Timbers FC on Wednesday night at Dick's Sporting Goods Park, with Andre Akpan, Tony Cascio, and Jaime CastrillÃ"n all scoring for the home side.

Boulder native and Homegrown Player Shane O'Neill made his MLS debut as a late-game substitute, while goalkeeper Matt Pickens earned his seventh shutout of the season. Akpan's goal was his first of the year, while CastrillÃ"n notched his team-leading seventh of the campaign.

Friday night's match was "Colorado Heroes Night" at Dick's Sporting Goods Park, and the Rapids welcomed and honored several of Colorado's representatives at the London Olympics: Missy Franklin, Janay DeLoach, Lance Brooks, Corey Cogdell, David Herman, Kelsey Campbell and Dennis Bowsher. The club also presented the Colorado Professional Fire Fighters Foundation and the Denver Center for Crime Victims with checks for $20,000 each, the result of fundraising throughout the summer to benefit firefighters and first responders.
