Houston Dynamo FC News Release
HOUSTON, TX (Thursday, Sept. 6, 2012) - The Houston Dynamo look to solidify their playoff position in the Eastern Conference standings and extend their home unbeaten streak to 22 games at 7:30 p.m. tonight as they host Real Salt Lake in a match presented by Direct Energy. Tickets are still available at www.HoustonDynamo.com, by calling (713) 276-GOAL or at the stadium box office (2200 Texas St., Houston).
Houston is 11-7-9 (42 points) after 27 games and in fourth place in the Eastern Conference, eight points behind conference leader Sporting Kansas City. Real Salt Lake is 14-10-4 (46 points) through 28 games and in second place in the Western Conference. A Dynamo win would vault them past Chicago and into third place. Tonight's match ends a span of six games in 19 days for the Dynamo.
The game will be broadcast live on Fox Sports Houston Plus and MultiMedios Houston. It can be heard on KPRC 950 AM and La Ranchera 850 AM.
Houston has the longest current regular season home unbeaten streak in Major League Soccer (21 regular season games) and have set a new franchise record. The Dynamo can equal the second longest streak in MLS history, set by the Columbus Crew, with a win or tie against RSL tonight.
The Dynamo will be without defenders Andre Hainault (CAN) and Jermaine Taylor (JAM), and midfielders Boniek Garcia (HON) and Je-Vaughn Watson (JAM) who are away with their respective national teams for World Cup qualifiers.
Houston is coming off a 3-1 defeat to the Chicago Fire, Sunday evening in Bridgeview, Ill. Brian Ching scored his fifth goal of the season to equal his 2011 goal total and set a career high with his 26th regular season game played. Brad Davis' assist on Ching's goal was his 11th of the season, which put him two behind Seattle's Mauro Rosales for the league lead.
Real Salt Lake earned a 1-0 home win over D.C. United on Saturday, with Will Johnson scoring the game-winner.
Tonight is the first and only meeting between Houston and Salt Lake in 2012. The Dynamo are 7-0-1 all-time at home against Real Salt Lake, including a dramatic 3-2 win on Aug. 20, 2011, capped by a goal from homegrown product Alex Dixon in stoppage time.
