Colorado Rapids News Release

RAPIDS VS. REAL HEAD-TO-HEAD: Colorado holds a 2-1 overall record against Real Salt Lake. The Rapids won the last meeting between the two teams 2-1 in Denver and they will attempt to record the first road victory in the series for either team on Wednesday.

MORE THAN POINTS AT STAKE: Rocky Mountain-sized bragging rights will be on the line Wednesday, as this match is the fourth and final game of the inaugural Rocky Mountain Cup competition. With victories in the last two games between these rivals, the Rapids have a three point advantage and are leading in the goal differential category by two. A win by the Rapids or a draw will secure them the trophy; a win by RSL will mean the competition will go to goal differential to decide the winner of the Cup, and which team's fans will host the trophy in their state through next season.

FAMILIARIZE YOURSELVES: After not playing each other since way back on April 16, the Rapids and Real Salt Lake are finishing up the season by playing each other three times in four weeks. The first two of these last three contests resulted in Black and Blue victories (2-0 and 2-1). Wednesday will be the last game of the regular season for both teams, and the second match of the season between the two teams in Salt Lake City.

RESERVES FINISH SEASON WITH WIN: The Rapids Reserves won their final match of the year 3-2 against the FC Dallas Reserves on Sunday. The Rapids jumped out to a 3-0 lead, with two goals from Sasha Gotsmanov and one from Fabrice Noel, and then held on for the victory. The Reserves finished the season with 21 points from a 6-4-3 record.

PLAYOFF POSITIONING: While the Mile High Club knows they will be playing their first playoff game on Saturday, October 22 at INVESCO Field at Mile High, the opponent is yet to be determined. Should the Rapids win on Wednesday and the Galaxy lose on Saturday, the Black and Blue will face FC Dallas in the first round of the playoffs. Any other scenario and the San Jose Earthquakes will come to Denver on the 22nd.

DEDI'S STREAK ENDS: After scoring four goals in four games, midfielder Dedi Ben-Dayan's streak ended on Saturday against FC Dallas. The Israeli almost had his fifth goal in 5 straight games in the 82nd minute Saturday, but he was denied on a last-ditch save by the Dallas goalkeeper.

TRAVELING FANS: Real Salt Lake has agreed to give traveling Rapids fans a specially-discounted rate of $15 for tickets at Rice Eccles Stadium for Wednesday's match. This deal is only for tickets bought over the phone and will not be available at the ticket windows on game day. Rapids fans interested in joining the supporter's group traveling to Salt Lake for Wednesday's game should call the RSL ticket office at (801) 924-8559 and ask for the Rapids Fan discount.

RAPIDS TEAM UP WITH NATIONAL GUARD: For two straight weeks, beginning this Thursday, October 13, the Colorado Rapids and the Colorado Army National Guard will again partner for the 5th straight year to arrange a series of visits to Metro-area elementary, middle and high schools via military helicopter, landing in school yards across the Front Range to promote the Red Ribbon Anti-Drug program among students. Find out if your school is on the list by visiting ColoradoRapids.com.

PLAYOFF TIME: The Rapids have confirmed their home playoff game of the semifinal round of the 2005 MLS Cup Playoffs. The Black & Blue will host their first home playoff game on Saturday, October 22nd at Invesco Field at Mile High at 7:00pm. Playoff tickets are on sale now; the Rapids are also offering the "Rapids Youth Night Special" presented by Fat City, where kids 16 & under get a free playoff ticket with the purchase of an adult playoff ticket, as well as 2 free coupons to Fat City. Fans can reserve their Playoff Tickets or the Rapids Youth Night Special by calling the Rapids Ticket Hotline at (303) 825-GOAL.
