Colorado Rapids News Release
The Colorado Rapids fought back for a 1-1 draw against the MLS-leading Seattle Sounders in front of the first capacity home crowd at DICK'S Sporting Goods Park since early 2020.
The teams exchanged early blows with quality looks at goal. Seattle had the best look in the first five minutes, Raul Ruidiaz had his chance deflect off the crossbar. In the 12th minute Cole Bassett played Andre Shinyaski in on goal, his effort off the outside of his foot glanced wide.
In the 41st minute the Sounders struck first against the run of play. The Rapids turned the ball over on the edge of their own penalty area and Alex Roldan pounced and beat William Yarbrough to give the visitors the lead at halftime.
Michael Barrios equalized in the 58th minute and sparked the crowd and his side when his left-footed shot beat Stefan Cleveland to equalize 1-1.
It was a 90 minutes that Rapids legend Pablo Mastroeni likely would've relished the opportunity to participate in, and the former captain saw the Rapids extend their home scoring streak to 29 matches on the night his 25 was retired forever.
